We're talking about TRU Simulation's Veris™ virtual reality flight simulator. TRU selected ASTi's field-proven Telestra audio and communications system to provide realistic pilot comms and high-fidelity aural cues to Bell 505 helicopter trainees via their headsets. This hardware setup delivers the highest-quality sound without the need for an array of speakers—which take up space, need to be wired, and can cost a lot—surrounding the cockpit.
And the quality? The Veris platform is one of the first FAA Level 7 accredited VR training devices. This certification involves subjective acceptance of aircraft audio, followed by periodic recertification to ensure sound quality against degradation. ASTi worked with TRU to design a new testing methodology and hardware platform to accurately assess headphone audio fidelity. Using this setup, TRU will be able to recertify the simulator against the original, approved sound profile to maintain Level 7 status throughout the simulator's lifespan.
