T-7A Red Hawk GBTS: A Tale of Two ASTi Technologies

As initial deployment of these systems grows nearer, we have heard whispers in the wind about Boeing's T-7A Red Hawk Ground-Based Training System (GBTS). This seems like the perfect opportunity to remind our "What's Happening?!" readers that these training systems boast not one, but two ASTi solutions.

For those of you who may not know, The T-7A Red Hawk is a two-seat, single-engine jet built by Boeing to replace the U.S. Air Force's fleet of T-38 Talon training jets. The overall T-7 pilot training program will involve real aircraft working in concert with ground-based simulators in an integrated, live-virtual-constructive (I-LVC) training environment.

ASTi's Telestra audio and communications system provides network-based cockpit comms and the highest fidelity aural cues and environmental audio for the simulators. Meanwhile, ASTi Voisus® systems interface directly with Jotron ED-137 radios to provide radio-over-IP bridging between live and simulated aircraft. Together, these ASTi technologies provide the most realistic training environment for the ground-based trainees as well as the flexibility for the USAF to easily switch between LVC training scenarios.

Keep an eye on our website for future announcements as this program develops.
