Bringing SERA® to the Foreground

Recently, Frasca International delivered a number of ground-based TH-73A Thrasher Part Task Trainer (PTT) devices to Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) and Training Wing 5 at NAS Whiting Field, FL. These new mixed-reality (MR) helicopter simulators follow the industry trend of using certain aspects of virtual-reality technology alongside physical controls to provide effective flight training at an affordable cost.

Some people in the training and simulation industry dismiss ASTi's Simulated Environment for Realistic ATC (SERA) product as something that provides "just background chatter." Perhaps they are unaware that SERA automates radio interaction between pilot trainees and virtual air traffic controllers. It delivers instructions, listens to pilot radio comms, and responds appropriately for the virtual training location, intended flight plan, training scenario emergencies and more.

This is not "just background chatter." SERA requires pilot trainees to pay attention to their radios, listen for their callsigns and ATC instructions, key their transmissions at the right time, and provide accurate readbacks amidst a bustling communications space that they cannot merely talk over. We invite any skeptics to arrange a demo. Sit in the cockpit or strap on the VR goggles to fly with SERA. We are confident that you will walk away with a new appreciation for the training impact and value that SERA offers.
