ASTi Develops High-Fidelity MAP Emulation for P-8A, E-7A Training Systems

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) recently selected ASTi to create a brand new, software-based communications training solution that replicates the Mission Audio Panel (MAP) comms management system used by a number of patrol, early warning and reconnaissance platforms.

The MAP communications panel is used aboard the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) E-7A Wedgetail, the U.S. Navy's P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, and other international platforms. HII will deliver systems featuring ASTi's MAP solution to the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) located at the U.S. Air Force Joint Integrated Test and Training Center Nellis (JITTC-N) in Nevada.

ASTi developed a custom Voisus® client featuring a high-fidelity software panel for use on touchscreen tablet PCs. The comm panel simulation allows operators to access up to 36 communication assets like radios, sonobuoys, aircraft intercom busses and more. The MAP client supports stereo audio for spatial placement of comms assets to support complex training missions, and works in plain and cipher modes.

MAP emulation capability is also available in ASTi's Telestra product with advanced features such as security interlock. This prevents the inadvertent mixing of plain and encrypted audio signals when the operator transmits on multiple assets at different security levels. Both the Voisus and Telestra MAP panel solutions integrate easily with existing training and simulation devices.
