At 3:00 p.m. local time on Monday, October 5, 2026, ASTi will be participating in a technical workshop panel discussion titled "The FAA SATCE Research Program & Growing Adoption" at the Flight Simulator Engineering and Maintenance Committee (FSEMC) Conference in Frankfurt, Germany. The FSEMC Conference is billed as "the premier technical conference for flight simulation professionals," and ASTi representatives on hand for the panel and entire event include Carolyn Barranco, Jeremy Goodman, Kerrenton Snow, and Neil Waterman.
The workshop panel will discuss the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) to investigate the viability of simulated air traffic control environments (SATCE) as an effective and beneficial component in commercial airline pilot training programs. Also planned is a discussion about the growing adoption of SATCE for training by commercial airlines in the U.S. and elsewhere.
In recent years, SATCE technology has matured to the point of practical application and has spurred multiple organizations to investigate its benefits for pilot training. Alaska Airlines, FlightSafety International, and another major U.S. carrier have all conducted independent SATCE studies. The primary driver for these investigations is safety. SATCE allows for complex training scenarios that are otherwise difficult or impossible to replicate without a fully simulated ATC environment, such as runway incursions and ground collisions between aircraft.
