Herndon, VA — Advanced Simulation Technology inc. (ASTi) will help lead the ARINC Industry Activities Simulated Air Traffic Control Environment (SATCE) Working Group as it undertakes an 18-month effort to review and refresh its recommendations for the use of simulated ATC in flight training devices. The updated ARINC Specification 439, "Guidance for Simulated Air Traffic Control Environments in Flight Simulation Training Devices", will serve as the industry's primary resource for guiding how to adopt and implement SATCE. It will also help steer regulators like the FAA and ICAO as they develop standards for flight simulator qualification.
Ted Chapman from FlightSafety International, Inc. and Dr. Jeremy Goodman, MRAeS will co-chair the Working Group. ASTi’s team of engineers, which includes Dr. Goodman, will provide its technical expertise in the practical application of SATCE for flight training programs as part of this important industry initiative.
"We're now at the point of widespread SATCE adoption at scale in commercial pilot training," said Dr. Goodman. "The more I discover from early adopters and researchers, including the FAA, the more I'm convinced that SATCE will reshape most professional pilot training programs around the world."
ASTi has been part of the Working Group since its inception in 2011. It unites airlines, training organizations, regulators, industry and academic organizations, device manufacturers, system suppliers, and SATCE vendors like ASTi to develop best practices for the entire flight training community.
